In March 2008 EMAP (The Environmental Monitoring and Action Project) encourages schools to go out and sample their local waterway to win exciting prizes!!!

Feet First Walk to School Week is happening Monday 3 to Friday 7 March 2008. During Feet First week, children at participating schools are encouraged to  walk to school with a caregiver, a friend or on a walking school bus. Special events are being planned for Walk to School Day on Wednesday 5 March.

Walking to school is an easy way to 'do your bit' for the environment while getting exercise and fresh air at the same time.

Cars produce more pollution (per kilometre) on short journeys when the engine is cold and the car keeps stopping and starting in traffic jams. The morning 'school run' is one of the most polluting journeys you can make.
